Stejskal Receives Call to AHL Iowa

DULUTH, Ga. - Gladiators defenseman Joe Stejskal was signed by the Iowa Wild to a PTO contract Saturday morning, the AHL team announced on Saturday. With the assignment, Stejskal (pronounced STAY-skull) is the 11th Gladiator player to reach the AHL this season.

Stejskal, 26, is the Gladiators' plus-minus leader at a +10 rating, and is in the midst of a career year, offensively. His four goals and 16 assists for Gwinnett through 43 games played is a career high for the defenseman. He also is the team's leading scorer among defenseman, and fourth overall on the team.

The native of Grand Rapids, Minn. was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round (#133 overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. After four years at Dartmouth College, Stejskal spent two seasons with the Canadiens organization from 2011 to 2013.

Stejskal has AHL experience in 93 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs, scoring one goal and eight assists. He has also played for the Wheeling Nailers and spent all of last season with the Florida Everblades.

Among his notable achievements this season, the Gladiators alternate captain played in his 200th professional game on November 29th, and led the ECHL in plus-minus in January (+13) alongside fellow Gladiator blue-liner Eric Springer.

Iowa's next game will be today at 3:00 p.m. as they take on the Toronto Marlies at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. The Gladiators next game will be tonight at 7:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center as they face the Orlando Solar Bears for Teddy Bear Toss, Clark Howard Night, and Back "˜N' Black Night.
