December 7, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Chris Richards scored two goals to lead the Youngstown SteelHounds over the Mississippi RiverKings tonight 4-2 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The SteelHounds now lead the RiverKings for first place in the Northeast Division by six points.

Richards scored 2:49 into the game to set the tone for the evening. His teammate Petr Pohl scored at 5:33 to give the SteelHounds an early 2-0 lead.

The RiverKings did get one back before too long. Cody Blanshan scored his first goal of the season at 7:01 on a play off the end boards behind the SteelHounds net to make it a 2-1 game.

No one would score again until 3:23 into the third period, when Richards banged home his second goal of the game. The RiverKings intensified the attack, but Layne Sedevie stood tall in the SteelHounds net and finished the game with 36 saves.

Adam Smyth added an empty-netter for the SteelHounds, but the scoring didn't end there. Steve Slonina banked the puck off of Sedevie and into the net with 23 seconds remaining. Slonina had not scored since netting a pair of goals on Oct. 30 against the Tulsa Oilers.

Sebastien Centomo made 33 saves for the RiverKings, who fell to 0-3-1 in their last four games.

The two teams meet again tomorrow night at the DCC at 7:05 as the RiverKings play their 1,000th regular season game in franchise history. The pre-game show begins on Y 96.1 at 6:55.
