Richards Shines In Victory

SOUTHAVEN, MISSISSIPPI - The Youngstown SteelHounds were able to expand their lead in the Northeast Division to six points as they defeated the second place Mississippi RiverKings by a score of 4-2 on Friday night. The Hounds are now 15-4-1 (31 points) and the RiverKings are now 12-6-1 (25 points).

Chris Richards got the ball rolling for Youngstown as he scored at just 2:49 of the first period to make it 1-0 SteelHounds. Richards had two goals and an assist on the night giving him a team-leading 27 points coming from nine goals and 18 assists on the season. Petr Pohl put the Hounds up 2-0 as he scored his ninth goal of the season at the 5:33 mark of the first period. Kevin Jarman and Milan Maslonka recorded assists on the Pohl goal. Mississippi fought back as Cody Blanshan scored his first goal of the season at 7:01 to make it a 2-1 game after one period.

There was a scoreless second period and only a total of 14 penalty minutes for the game.

In the third period Chris Richards scored his second of the night at 3:23 from Mark Johnson and Jason Baird to make it 3-1 Hounds. Baird had two assists for the game. Adam Smyth notched an empty net goal with 53 second left to make it 4-1. The RiverKings scored with 23 seconds left but it was too late as the Hounds win 4-2.

Layne Sedevie made 36 saves on 38 shots to get his second straight win as a Youngstown SteelHound. The Hounds are now 2-2-0 on their five game road trip which concludes tomorrow night with a rematch against the RiverKings at 8:05.
