Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 7)- The Brahmas were the epitome of the team tagline, "A new brand of excitement" as they defeated the Laredo Bucks 3-2 in a shootout Friday evening at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

The night began as a defensive game as both teams skated hard before a gleam of offense shined for the Bucks. Laredo forward Andrew Desjardins at the 19:07 mark fired a shot past Brahmas starting goaltender David Cacciola to put the visitor's up 1-0 in the first.

As Brahmas fans were being entertained in the first intermission by Texas Lottery Night, the Brahmas players were in the locker room prepping for a second period comeback. Within three minutes in the third, Texas forward Jordan Cameron with a feed from Justin Kinnunen shot a goal past Bucks netminder Kevin Beech to even the game 1-1.

In the final period Texas and Laredo proved they were top teams in the Central Hockey League as they battled on the ice. Finally, forward Jordan Cameron notched his second goal of the night at the 15:41 mark from Brahmas defensemen Mike Vellinga and Craig Minard on the powerplay.

The third was not quite over though for the two benches as a play on the ice erupted into an eventual Bucks powerplay with just three-and-a-half minutes left to play. Laredo took advantage of the situation and just like their first goal, scored in the last minute of the period, evening up the score 2-2. Rane Carnegie was credited the goal.

The extra period was going to be necessary for the evening, as both Laredo and Texas were undefeated in overtime. It was an action filled OT for the home team as they outshot the Bucks 3-0, but it was still not enough to avoid a shootout.

Brahmas forward Grant Jacobsen started the eventful shootout with a miss. Texas goalie, Cacciola, had to prove himself in a best of five shootout, starting with Bucks goal scorer of the night, Carnegie. Carnegie snuck the puck behind Cacciola, putting the Bucks up 1-0. Yet, this was all Cacciola was willing to give up for the night as he stopped 4 out of 5 Laredo shots.

Brahmas shootout heroes for the evening were Jordan Cameron and Anders Strome. David Cacciola saved 31 of 33 shots, making him the first star of the game. Texas is now 7-0 against Southern Division teams and 5-1 on Friday nights.

The Brahmas next home game is tomorrow, December 8 against the Amarillo Gorillas at 7:05 PM at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The Brahmas Fan Club is sponsoring the Teddy Bear Toss, and encouraging all fans to bring a teddy bear to 'toss' on the ice for tomorrow night's game.
