BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads opened its three-game series over the Las Vegas WrangleRS with a 6-2 win Wednesday night at the Bank of America Centre. The win improves Idaho's season record to 5-1-1 over Las Vegas. Forward Tim Verbeek made his debut on home ice, and impressed the 3,727 in attendance scoring 3 points in the game (2 goals and 1 assist).

Idaho equaled its season high 4 goals in the first period, beginning with a tally from Ben Keup that was redirected from Steelheads' captain Dan Vandermeer's shot. The teams were playing 4-on-4 when Keup notched his 3rd goal of the season. At 8:25, Scott Burt gave his team a two-goal lead on the power play. Las Vegas closed the gap midway through the frame just as a two-man advantage was expiring. Lance Galbraith had just skated out of the box when Jason McBain found the back of the net on a screened Frank Doyle. The Wranglers first tally, a power play goal, came at 14:55. Matt Elich answered back quickly. He gathered up an idle puck sitting idle in front of the Wrangler's crease and tallied a backhander 15:21. Verbeek scored the final goal of the period at 17:50.

Las Vegas switched goalies after the first period, and replaced Marc Magliarditti with Sebastien Centomo. The Steelheads scored the lone goal of the middle period. David Morisset, who hadn't played since January 5th due to an injury, scored at 13:39 after collecting his own rebound.

In the third, with Idaho on the power play, Verbeek tallied his second goal of the night. Idaho controlled much of the play throughout the period, but the Wranglers took advantage of a turnover and Darren Lynch put in the team's second of the night at 12:10.
