
Stingrays' Courtenay Named CCM TACKS Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - South Carolina right wing Ed Courtenay is the CCM
TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for February.
Courtenay scored 22 points (8g-14a) as the Stingrays went 6-5-4 in
February.
Now in his 16th full professional season and his third with South
Carolina, Courtenay had seven multiple-point games in February, including
three points (2g-1a) and the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win against
Greenville on February 5 and six points (2g-4a) in a 6-0 win at Pee Dee on
February 25. The Verdun, Quebec native had three consecutive games where he
scored multiple points - February 4 against Gwinnett (0g-2a), February 5
against Greenville (2g-1a), and February 8 at Pee Dee (1g-1a).
The 6-4 and 220-pounder had a plus-minus rating of +10 for the month,
finishing even or better in 13 of 15 games and scoring at least one point
in 10 of 15 games.
Courtenay ranks third on the Stingrays with 43 points (16g-27a) and leads
the team in plus-minus rating (+15). He had a league season-high 12-game
home scoring streak, during which he scored 19 points (7g-12a) from
November 11 to February 18.
In 2003-04 with South Carolina, Courtenay scored 66 points (29g-37a) in 69
regular season games and seven points (2g-5a) in seven Kelly Cup Playoff
games. The 37-year-old played in the ECHL for Jacksonville in 1995-96,
scoring two assists in three regular season games and 17 points (5g-12a) in
18 Riley Cup Playoff games. In 1996-97 with South Carolina, Courtenay
(54g-56a) finished tied with teammate Mike Ross (50g-60a) for the ECHL lead
in scoring with 110 points as the Stingrays won the inaugural Kelly Cup
Championship.
Since his first full professional season in 1989-90, Courtenay has played
in the International Hockey League, the West Coast Hockey League, the
British Superleague, the Quebec Senior Provincial Hockey League and in the
National Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks, scoring 20 points (7g-13a)
in 44 career NHL games.
