
Steelheads Take Boise Half of Preseason Home and Home

Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies 7-4 in preseason action Friday night in Boise in the first half of a home and home series between the two teams.
The Grizzlies will host Idaho in preseason action on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Utah Olympic Oval. Tickets for the game at the Oval are available for $10. Parking is included in the ticket price. There will be a Post-Game Skate with the Grizzlies after the preseason game. Skate rental will be $3. For more information on ticketing and the game, visit, http://utaholympiclegacy.org/oval/.
Second-year Utah forward Barry Almeida scored two power-play goals for the Grizzlies and newcomer scorer Ryan Walters added one goal and one assist, including a three-on-three goal as the two teams tested the new overtime format after regulation. 21-year-old rookie defenseman Phil Pietroniro added another goal on a drop pass by Walters late in the first period. He also added an assist in the contest. 21-year-old rookie forward Josh MacDonald added two assists.
Idaho scored a goal in the final minute of each period and added two power-play scores, one coming five-on-three in the third period to make it 5-3 after Almeida made it 4-3 on the power-play earlier in the frame.
Bryan Hogan stopped five of eight shots and Eric Levine turned aside 13 of 16 in goal for Utah as the two split the action.
The Grizzlies open the regular season Friday, October 16 in Colorado.
