Colorado Eagles News Release
Rapid City, SD. - The Colorado Eagles concluded their preseason with a 5-3 victory over the Rapid City Rush at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Eagles had eight different players register a point on the evening, including three multi-point efforts.
The Eagles put themselves on the board first, as forward Trent Daavettila stuffed home a loose puck on the side of the net to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead, 5:01 into the first period. After a succession of impressive saves from Eagles netminder Kris Lazaruk, Colorado forward Patrick D'Amico would force a turnover to spring Nathan Moon on a 2-on-1 rush down the ice, with Moon beating Rush goaltender Danny Bottachio upstairs to grow the Eagles lead to 2-0 after twenty minutes of action.
The Rush slashed the Eagles lead in half as forward Chris Ciotti deflected a shot from the point past Lazaruk and into the back of the net to make it 2-1. Colorado would counter by throwing 15 second-period shots on net, including a shot from the top of the circle from forward Jesse Mychan to extend the Eagles lead to 3-1 after two periods of play.
Mychan would bury his second goal of the night on another 2-on-1 rush to put the Eagles up 4-1 with 2:55 remaining in the third period. The Rush would not go away quietly, however, as defenseman James Melindy fired home a power-play goal to bring the Rush back to within two at 4-2. Just over one minute later, Ciotti would beat Eagles goaltender Tyler Bunz on the short-side to bring the Rush to within one, 4-3. With less than one second on the clock Collin Bowman secured the Eagles 5-3 victory with an empty-netter from in front of the net of Bunz.
Daavettila and Moon both finished with a goal and an assist, while Mychan paced the team with a pair of goals. Kris Lazaruk made 14 saves on 15 shots, while Tyler Bunz turned aside six of the eight shots he faced.
The 2015-16 regular season home schedule kicks off on Friday, October 16th when the Eagles host the Utah Grizzlies. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
