READING, Pa. - The Norfolk Admirals allowed a power-play goal late to fall, 5-4, to the Reading Royals in a preseason game on Saturday night at Santander Arena.

The Royals got going early when Ian Watters opened the scoring at 1:18 as he beat Admirals goaltender Ty Rimmer. Jonathan Parker and Kevin Sundher earned the assists.

Rookie Marcus Hinds evened the score almost four minutes later with help from fellow attackers Alexandre Ranger and Jordan Kremyr. Hinds' first goal as an Admiral came at 5:14 of the first period. Ranger tallied a goal of his own later in the first to give the Admirals their first lead at 13:40. Kremyr picked up another helper, and the two forwards finished the period with two points a piece.

In the second period, Reading jumped back in front when Mike Pereira struck on the power play at 3:20. Former Admiral Robbie Czarnik chipped in with an assist on the scoring effort. The Royals kept rolling with two more for three unanswered goals to make it 4-2 at 12:39 of the middle frame. Tyler Gjurich recorded a marker at 9:55 before Pereira's shorthanded goal placed Norfolk in a two-goal hole, signaling the end of Rimmer's night and the start of rookie Philippe Cadorette's.

Norfolk narrowed the gap at 13:11 using a power-play goal from Steven Whitney. Charles-Olivier Roussel and Michael Beaudry linked up with Whitney for the assists. Reading held on to the 4-3 advantage for the rest of the period to take a one-goal lead into the third.

At 10:53 of the final frame, Whitney received feeds from defenseman Tim Daly and Beaudry to net the equalizer for a 4-4 count. With 2:41 to play in regulation, Reading's Geoff Walker deposited the game-winner behind Cadorette on a power play, lifting the Royals to a 5-4 victory.

The Admirals topped Reading in shots, 32-31, but went 1-for-5 on the man advantage compared to the Royals' who went 2-for-2. Rimmer saved 15 shots on 19 opportunities and Cadorette allowed a goal on 11 shots. Connor Knapp turned in a 28-save performance for the hosts.

Next up for the Admirals is Opening Night on Friday, October 16 versus Wheeling. Individual game tickets start at $17, season tickets are as low as $400, and 10-pack tickets begin at $125.
