Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Idaho Steelheads came from behind on the strength of two third period power-play goals to claim a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Eagles in the second of three games between the teams this week at the Budweiser Events Center. Josh Robinson got his first professional start in net for Idaho, and his teammates helped him pick up the win by allowing just 22 shots. The only two that got by him were scored by Michael Forney, who claimed the league lead in goals with five through four games.

Idaho took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room following a fast moving first frame. In a period that saw plenty of back-and-forth action, just 14 total shots were recorded, with the Steelheads holding an 8-6 edge. Those two extra shots were the difference, coming off the stick of Justin Dowling 15:45 into the period. The Idaho forward was sprung on a breakaway, and although Kyle Jones stopped his first shot with a left pad save, Dowling was able to reach back and flip in the rebound for the game's first goal.

Colorado rode a pair of goals by Michael Forney to a 2-1 lead after two periods. The tying goal came three and a half minutes in, following an unsuccessful power play, when Chad Costello created a play deep in the offensive zone that finished when Forney slid home a backhander from the doorstep.

About two and a half minutes later, Forney struck again to put the home team in the lead following a partial 5-on-3 opportunity. Again the goal was set up by Costello, whose shot from the left circle rung off of both goal posts and fell to the side of the Idaho goaltender. Forney was stationed on the doorstep again and was able to backhand another rebound into the net.

But some early season trends continued to haunt Colorado when they gave up a pair of power-play goals early in the third period as Idaho came from behind to take a 3-2 lead. The Steelheads tied the game at 2 just over two minutes into the final frame when Jeremie Blain's shot banked hard off the end boards and bounced back in front of the net where Gord Baldwin was able to toss an easy put-back into the net.

At 6:34, the Steelheads were able to take the lead with another man-advantage marker when Andrew Carroll blasted a one-timer from the slot off a rush. Colorado couldn't counter the rest of the period, despite spending nearly the entire final few minutes in the Idaho zone with an extra attacker.
