
Road Warriors Win Home Opener against Stingrays

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors had a great atmosphere in the rink as they opened the EquilifeMD rink in the Bi-Lo Center for the first time in the 2012-2013 season. The night did not start in the direction the Road Warriors wanted. Stingrays forward Adam Hirschfeld started the scoring off with the team's first shot on net. Hirscheld beat goaltender Adam Courchaine blocker high just 5 minutes into the game. Brandon Wong tied the game2 minutes later receiving a pass from Sean Berkstresser to beat Adam Morrison.
The Road Warriors would throw it into high gear as the team continued pressure throughout the rest of the first period. Scott Pitt scored on a breakaway and entered the intermission with their first lead of the year. Marc-Olivier Vallerand scored a shorthanded goal at the 8 minutes mark in the second period. 1:28 into the third period Francis Verreault scored to put the Road Warriors up 4-1. The Road Warriors got into penalty trouble in the third period having to kill back to back penalties. Hirschfeld scored his second of the night on the second powerplay. Sean Berkstresser would score his first of the year to finished off the Stingrays final attempt with 2:30 left in regulation. Adam Couchaine stopped 28 shots to recorded a win and Morrison took the loss stopping 34 of 38 shots.
The Road Warriors continue the weekend against the Gwinnett Gladiators with a home and home series. Tomorrow night the Road Warriors travel to Gwinnett for a 7 p.m. faceoff. They return home on Sunday for a 4 p.m. game where the Road Warriors hold the Sunday Family Fun Day. Fans can show their BI-LO BONUSCARD at the Box Office two hours before the game and receive up to 4 free tickets in the BI-LO Family Fun Section while supplies last. After the game fans can skate on the ice with their favorite Road Warriors Players after the game.
