Ontario Reign News Release
DULUTH, GA - The Ontario Reign, defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Los Angeles Kings, earned their third win tonight with a 4-2 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators of the Eastern Conference for their first-ever meeting at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. In what has been a common occurrence for the Reign's contests this season, an early goal started off the night's scoring. Brock Sheahan sent a shot from the blue line past Gwinnett's Mike Lee just a minute and a half into play. Cameron Burt and Brady Calla both pick up assists on the goal. Moments later, Kyle Kraemer picked up a Gladiators turnover and centered a pass to Dan DaSilva from the bottom of the right circle who shot it top self from the slot giving the Reign a 2-0 lead less than four minutes in.
At the 7:21 mark of the second period, Gwinnett's Doug Jones was able to slip one past JF Berube through traffic for the Gladiators' first goal. DaSilva sent a beautiful backdoor pass to Vincent LoVerde who came in hard and fired it behind Lee on the open net. Kyle Kraemer picked up the second assist while screening the play.
In the final frame, CJ Stretch scored the Reign's fourth tally of the night off a shot by Derek Couture. Colton Yellow Horn also earned an assist on the play. Gwinnett got another on the board for the second time at 13:49 while on the power play, but they couldn't break through the Reign defense again for the rest of the game.
The Reign didn't shy away from making their presence in Duluth known with multiple players ending up in the penalty box for both teams. Ontario gave up eight power-play chances to Gwinnett, but managed to fend out seven of those opportunities.
Berube earned the win stopping 29 of 31 shots while rookie goaltender Lee took the loss allowing four goals on 25 shots.
Three Stars: 1. ONT - Dan DaSilva 2. GWT - Doug Jones 3. ONT - Kyle Kraemer
