Not Pretty, But Titans Win "Shorthanded" over Evansville; Stay Perfect

Evansville, IN - It may not have been pretty, but in the end the Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, were effective enough to pull out a 4-3 win over the Evansville IceMen Friday night.

Marcel Noebels' steal in the Titans' offensive zone while short-handed, immediately turned into Luke Pither's first goal of the season 5:12 into the third period to give Trenton a hard fought 4-3 win in the first ever meeting with Evansville.

Mitch Versteeg got Trenton on the board at 16:07 of the first when his centering pass hit an IceMen defender and jumped over the right shoulder of goalie Ryan Madore (0-1, 33 saves) for a 1-0 lead.

After giving up the lead on a power play goal early in the second, Jacob Drewiske picked up his third of the year midway through the period, with Steven Schultz also getting his third - this one on the man-advantage - with 4:44 left for the 3-1 advantage.

It was then that the Titans defense started to struggle a bit and Evansville took advantage. Daniel Tetrault ripped a power play blast past Scott Wedgewood (3-0, 20 saves), making it 3-2 at 19:01. Then 53 seconds later it was 3-3 as Tyler Shattock tipped in a rebound on the goal line.

But the bell saved the Titans, setting the stage for the Pither-Noebels dramatics in the third.

On the night Trenton went 1-for-6 on the PP and 4-6 on the PK, while posting a season high in shots (37) and allowing a season low of 23.

Trenton has now opened up 4-0 for the first time since prior to the 2005-06 season and has their first four-game win streak since March 26-April 2, 2010, when they were known as the Devils.

The Titans now head for Cincinnati and a meeting with the Cyclones. If the Titans can pull out the win, it would mark their first five game win streak in three seasons.
