
Hirschfeld Scores Twice in Loss to Road Warriors

Greenville, S.C. - Forward Alden Hirschfeld scored two goals, but the South Carolina Stingrays (1-1-0-0) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (1-2-0-0) 5-2 at the Bi-Lo Center Friday night.
Hirschfeld opened the scoring with his first professional goal at 5:42 beating Road Warriors goaltender Adam Courchaine (W, 28 saves on 30 shots) under the blocker from the bottom of the left-wing circle. The Road Warriors tied the game at 7:57 with a tally from forward Brandon Wong. Forward Sean Berkstresser added the lone assist. Towards the end of the period, Road Warriors forward Scott Pitt made it 2-1 beating Stingrays netminder Adam Morrison (L, 34 saves on 39 shots) under the blocker at 18:11.
Forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand gave the Road Warriors a two-goal lead on a shorthanded marker at 8:29 of the second frame.
Rookie Francis Verreault pushed the score to 4-1 at 1:28 of the third period. Hirschfeld potted his second goal of the game on the power play at 11:19 with help from forward Andrew Cherniwchan. Berkstresser completed the game scoring at 17:30. Forwards Bretton Cameron and Shayne Wiebe added assists. The Stingrays finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-3.
The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum tomorrow, Saturday, October 20, to host the Ontario Reign for the first time in team history at 7:05 p.m. Saturday is Military Appreciation Night presented by General Dynamics. The Stingrays will wear special Stars and Stripes jerseys and auction them live after the game with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the USO.
