Tonight is the first of 10 scheduled meetings between the Jackals and Nailers this season. Five of those 10 games will be played at First Arena. The Jackals are 28-12-5 all-time against the Nailers and went 8-4-2 against them last season. Elmira is coming off of an opening weekend that saw them take victories over Reading (3-2) and Greenville (7-1) on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. The Jackals are averaging the most goals per game in the league after the first weekend at five. Wheeling, meanwhile, is playing the second of four straight games on the road to open the season. In their opener in Cincinnati last weekend the Nailers received a goal and assist each from Chris Barton and Paul Crowder but fell 3-2 in a shootout.
The Jackals have been busy on the transaction front over the last three days. On Wednesday they received goalie Maxime Clermont from the New Jersey Devils and released goalie Nick Niedert along with forwards Corey Bellamy and Alec Kirschner. On Thursday it was defenseman Ben Blood, center Louie Caporusso, and winger Jack Downing coming down from the Binghamton Senators. Rounding out the business was goaltender Nathan Lawson joining the Jackals today. All of the new additions, with the exception of Clermont, are expected to be in the Jackals' lineup tonight.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals are back on First Arena ice on Saturday, October 20, 2012 to take on the Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 p.m. Get here early because the first 2,500 fans through the door receive a Jackals 2012-13 poster schedule!
