Brampton Steelheads News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads are set to host their 9th Annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Sunday December 12th at 2 pm, when the Kingston Frontenacs visit the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Once again, this year's Teddy Bear Toss is presented by Canadian Tire and will be supporting Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.

In the 2019-20 season Steelheads fans showed their generosity, donating over $2,000 to Canadian Tire's Jumpstart Foundation through Teddy Bear sales and launching 2,257 stuffed animals onto the ice after the team's first goal. Thanks to all the support, over 2,000 kids who otherwise wouldn't have, received a gift for the holiday season through the Boys and Girls Club of Peel (BGC Peel).

Lori Gagnon, Regional Manager of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities commented on the importance of continuing its partnership with the hockey club. "Jumpstart has a great passion for sport and play. We believe that all kids of all abilities deserve the opportunity to participate, to help build stronger and healthier communities. Simply having access to sport and play can open doors to incredible opportunities in a child's life.

Despite the pandemic, Jumpstart helped more than 235,000 kids in financial need in 2020 and has now reached over 2.4 million children helped since inception in 2005.

Partnering with the Mississauga Steelheads Hockey Club is an extension of the work Jumpstart does. The five Canadian Tire locations in Mississauga are passionate about promoting physical activity and making sport accessible to all Canadian families and that is what this event is about."

Michael J Gyovai, Executive Director for the BGC Peel also commented on this events impact on their organization. "Our partnership with the Mississauga Steelheads, Canadian Tire and the City of Mississauga is essential and critical to the long-term growth and development of our children, youth and family programs and services across the City and Region. It is because of local partnerships, like with the Steelheads, we are able to continue providing opportunities for our members, allowing them to thrive, in school and society. Our families come from all walks of life, some are seen as at-risk children, youth and families from low-income communities but in the end, EVERYONE can benefit from the services and programs we offer. Since 1983 we have been providing a safe place for these individuals to participate in impactful, fun activities that support the development of confidence, learning and positive relationships."

The Mississauga Steelheads, Canadian Tire and the BGC Peel encourage all fans attending the game to bring a stuffed toy. As is tradition, when the Steelheads score their first goal of the game, fans can throw their stuffed animals onto the ice.
