Kingston Frontenacs News Release

Leevi Meriläinen has been selected to represent Team Finland at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.

On Monday, December 6th, Leevi was named the Ontario Hockey Leagues Goaltender of the Week for his performances over the weekend. The 6-foot-2, 170Ib. Meriläinen earned his first career OHL shutout on Friday, December 3 in a 5-0 win over the Oshawa Generals. He followed that performance up with a 5-1 win over the Ottawa 67's on Sunday, December 5. Over that two game span, the Finnish netminder recorded a 0.5 goals-against average, .980 save percentage, one shutout and a record of 2-0-0-0.

The Canadian Hockey League named Leevi to their Team of the Week on Tuesday, December 7. He joined fellow teammate Jake Murray (Defenceman, 3GP, 1G, 6A, 7P) with the weekly honour.

This was a great week for Ottawa Senators prospect and the Kingston Frontenacs can't wait to cheer Leevi on as he competes in the 2022 World Junior Championship.
