Spitfires Defeat Owen Sound 4-1
December 8, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Windsor Spitfires News Release
It was a slow start but the Spitfires took home the win in a close game with the Attack at the WFCU Centre Wednesday evening.
In the first period, each team had their chances. Owen Sound hit the crossbar before going out of play and the Spitfires had a few scrambles in front of the Attack goal. However, it was the Attack to get on the board first just over halfway through the period Guidon scored his 6th. The period ended with the Spitfires down 1-0 on the scoreboard and down 15-8 in shots.
In the second period the Spitfires had one powerplay opportunity and they capitalized on it to tie the game. D'Amico tipped a shot from Maggio into the net with just 6 seconds left on the powerplay. Ladd had the 2nd assist on the goal. Less than two minutes later, rookie forward Chris O'Flaherty was given a gift by the Attack defenceman who shot it up the middle of the ice right on to O'Flaherty stick who sniped his 2nd of the season and his first game wining goal. The Spitfires were up 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, the Spitfires added an insurance goal just 2:26 into the period. Zito buried his 8th on the season on a one-timer from a Maggio pass. The Spitfires had two penalties in the third, a tripping minor on D'Amico which was killed off and a double minor on Renwick that expired when the game ended. With just under two minutes to play the Attack pulled their goalie to get the man advantage but it was too early as the Attack lost the puck at the Spitfires blue line and the Spitfires capitalized. Maillet passed it to D'Amico up the boards who gave it to McDonald who cashed in on an empty net breakaway. The Spitfires have now won 2 in a row and Medina stopped 35 of 36 shots enroute to the teams' 10th win.
The Spitfires are back in action this Friday in London to take on the knights, puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm. After Friday, the Spitfires return home for the Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday night when they take on the Kitchener Rangers, puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
