Flint, Michigan - Closing out a five-game road stretch, the Erie Otters would invade the Dort Financial Center for the fourth time this season, taking on their Western Conference foes, the Flint Firebirds. With an 0-5 record against Flint during the 2021-22 season, and coming off one of their best games of the season in a 3-2 shootout loss at Hamilton, the Otters would look to start the young week off in the right direction. With usual Otter-killer Luke Cavallin getting the night off, the Otters would look to expel their demons against Ian Michelone in net.

Frustrated with their seasonal results with Flint, the Erie Otters would come out hot in the first period. In the first 10 minutes, Erie would strike for two goals, as the penalty-killing Otters would have Brendan Hoffmann feed a streaking Daniel D'Amato (6) who would race to the net of Michelone for a short-handed goal just 2:18 into the game. This would be D'Amato's fifth goal in four games. Nearing the halfway mark of the first, Brendan Hoffmann (10) would get one of his own, as he'd force a turnover in the offensive end. Later in the frame, a cherry-picking Brennan Othmann (16) would score his seventh of the season against Erie, as the Firebirds would make it a one-goal game heading to the second. Erie would lead 2-1, outshooting the Firebirds 12-7.

A high-scoring second period awaited these two Western Conference enemies, as a total five-goals would be scored. Dan D'Amato (7) would have his third multi-goal game in four games, as he would find the back of the net just :38 into the new frame to give Erie another two goal lead. Riley Piercey (8) would extend his scoring-streak to eight games, as the Firebirds would make it a one-goal game yet again. 4:03 later, Brendan Hoffmann (11) would give himself a multi-goal night and a three-point night as he'd reclaim a two-goal Erie lead. Within less than two minutes of each other, Flint would knot things up as Brennan Othmann (17) and Amadeus Lombardi (8) would make it 4-4. After 40, the game would remain at four goals aside, with Flint leading in shots 22-18.

If a five total goal second seemed like a lot, the third period would be a mind-boggle for casual observers. Flint would score five goals - including two on a match penalty against Brendan Hoffmann - to take the win 9-6 on home ice. Brett Bressette (10) and Dan D'Amato's (8) short-handed hat trick goal would be the notches on the board for the Otters.

For only the fourth time since November 13, the Erie Otters will play at the Erie Insurance Arena this coming weekend. Action starts back up on Saturday, December 11 for Superhero Night against the Saginaw Spirit.
