Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads (10-8-3) scored three goals in the third period to take a 4-1 win over the Jacksonville Icemen (13-7-0) on Friday night at CenturyLink Arena.
The Icemen scored the first goal of the night at 10:29 of the first period thanks to forward Garet Hunt to jump out to a 1-0 lead. The Steelheads gained momentum late in the frame, and at 17:42 forward Tony Calderone tipped a shot coming from forward Kale Kessy just by the outreached leg of the netminder to tie the game, 1-1.
After a scoreless second period, a more aggressive third period led to a 4-on-3 power play that the Steelheads cashed in on. At 7:32, forward Reid Petryk was set up in the left circle by swift passing for a one-time shot to take their first lead of the weekend, 2-1. Steelheads forward Steve McParland forced a turnover behind the Icemen net to open up forward A.J. White for a one-time shot at 14:17 to double the lead, 3-1. Steelheads defenseman Nolan Gluchowski put the game away at 17:40 with an empty net goal from center ice to seal a 4-1 win over the Icemen.
Steelheads netminder Tomas Sholl (5-3-0) halted 20 of 21 shots in the win, while Icemen goaltender Ken Appleby (0-1-0) turned away 35 of 38 shots in the loss. The Steelheads host the 21st annual Teddy Bear Toss For Tots on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:10 p.m. from CenturyLink Arena against the Icemen to close the weekend.
