Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - Following Saturday's Military Appreciation Night ceremonies, the Idaho Steelheads have announced the total donations from the weekend's St. Luke's Military Jersey auction and in-arena raffles. The weekend's charitable efforts raised $17,206, all of which will be donated to St. Luke's Rehabilitation to fund exercise and wellness opportunities for veterans.
The jersey auction raised $15,200 of the total donation. Fans at CenturyLink Arena were able to bid on Friday night and Saturday night to win custom-made patriotic jerseys that players wore during the games. Several jerseys were bought outright, with those fans making generous donations to St. Luke's to support veterans' health.
Another custom jersey was signed by every Steelheads player and raffled off to fans, raising the additional $2,006.
"We're incredibly pleased with the outpouring of support from our fans this weekend that allows us to donate to such an important cause," said Steelheads' President Eric Trapp. "It's important to the Steelheads that we honor the brave men and women that serve our country, and our fans are always enthusiastic to join us in those efforts."
Fans also had the opportunity to honor local servicemen and women before the game in a special ceremony that featured a joint honor guard with representatives from the Army National Guard and Air National Guard from Gowen Field and the Air Force from Mountain Home Air Force Base. The 25th Army Band Saxophone Quintet performed the national anthem before the game.
The Steelheads are off to Orlando for the first of a nine-game trip to play the Solar Bears, followed by stops to face the Florida Everblades, Colorado Eagles, and Rapid City Rush. The Steelheads and Solar Bears face-off Thursday at 5pm MT at Amway Center, the first of three games in three nights for Idaho.
