Elmira Jackals vs. Orlando Solar Bears Drop The Puck on Hunger Game

As a community owned team, staying active in the community is extremely important to all of us at the Jackals. During October, our staff was able to participate in many unique events and met many of you, our awesome fans. We hope you enjoyed seeing us around in October, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you more and more as the season moves forward! It's great to have the Jackals family back together at First Arena. Go Jackals!
Octoberfest
Blade and some of the Jackals staff spent time at Octoberfest in Elmira Heights. This October celebration in the Heights saw many local vendors and companies, and Blade! Blade spent meeting fans, taking photos, and handing out giveaways to the luckiest of Jackals fans.
Jackals and Crew 2015 Golf Tournament
On October 19th, the Jackals and staff teamed up with local golfers at Shepard Hills Golf Course in Waverly, NY for the Jackals and Crew Golf Tournament. Each team of four was made up of at least one Jackals player. There were raffles, giveaways, and a dinner afterwards.
National Read for Record Day!
October 22nd was National Read for Record Day. The Jackals celebrated with a second grade class at Fassett Elementary School. Blade and Jackals players, Sam Marotta, Zach Tolkinen, and Scott Jacklin read, 'Not Norman: A Goldfish Story," to the class. Following the reading was a brief Q&A session for the players and Blade.
Pink in the Rink
On October 23rd, the Jackals took on the Reading Royals in the annual Pink in the Rink game, to benefit Susan G. Komen of the Twin Tiers. The team wore specialty jersey that were auctioned off after the game, to raise funds for the cause. The night started out with the on-ice rose ceremony, where Jackals players gave roses to breast cancer survivors, in a pre-game recognition. The game had a large turn out and great atmosphere. It's always a joy to play for such a great cause.
Southern Tier Food Bank
On the 26th, the Jackals and staff spent the afternoon at the Southern Tier Food Bank in Horseheads, NY, preparing for Drop The Puck on Hunger. Players and staff sorted, weighed, and packaged items/boxes to be shipped to local food pantries in the region.
Drop The Puck on Hunger
The Jackals took over the Orlando Solar Bears on October 30th, in a great comeback win in overtime. The game was deemed "Drop The Puck on Hunger," as the Jackals teamed up with the Southern Tier Food Pantry in a benefit game. Many fans brought non-perishable items to the game to donate to the Food Bank. This years biggest item... boxed Mac N Cheese. Fans used the boxes as noise makers during the game, and dropped them in donation bins on their way out. A great way to donate to the community and celebrate a big time win with the Jackals.
