Game Notes - November 10 vs Wheeling

Saturday Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (5-1-0-1) took down the Evansville IceMen, 2-1, on Saturday night. Defensemen Garrett Noonan and Steve Weinstein scored the goals for the Cyclones, who win their third game of the last four played. The Cyclones outshot Evansville on the night, 27-26, while the power play was held scoreless on both opportunities. Goaltender Brandon Whitney earned his first professional win, stopping 25 shots on the night.

Friday Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (4-1-0-1) earned a 4-2 win over the Adirondack Thunder on Friday night. Forwards Joe Pendenza and Jack Downing each had a pair of goals for the Cyclones. The Cyclones were outshot, 33-31, on the night, with goaltender Brad Thiessen stopping 31 to earn his fourth win of the season. The power play converted on 2-of-4 chances, while the penalty kill was a perfect 4-for-4.

Last Wednesday Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (3-1-0-1) fell to the Toledo Walleye, 2-1 in a shootout, on Wednesday night. Forward Zach Budish scored the lone goal in regulation for the Cyclones. Cyclones goaltender Brad Thiessen had another solid outing, stopping 30 of the 31 shots he faced in the loss. The shots were even at 31 apiece, while Cincinnati's power play was held scoreless on each of its four chances.

Previewing Wheeling: The Nailers enter Tuesday morning having lost two in a row, and three of their last four games overall. The dropped a pair of games over the weekend to the Kalamazoo Wings and Norforlk Admirals, getting outscored 10-5 in those contests. They are led in scoring by forward Derek Army, who has accounted for a pair of goals and six assists through eight games played. Team goals leader Jarett Burton is right behind him with seven points (5g, 2a), followed by forwards Riley Bruce (1g 5a), Sahir Gill (3g, 2a), and John McCarron (1g, 4a).

Inside the Series: This is the first of four meetings this season between the Cyclones and Nailers, with three of them coming at U.S. Bank Arena. The series was even, 2-2-0-0, last season, and the Cyclones hold a 15-7-0-2 in the all-time series.

Next Game Preview: The Cyclones are right back on home ice on Wednesday night when they welcome in the Fort Wayne Komets to U.S. Bank Arena for a 7:30pm ET faceoff. This will be the second of 10 meetings between the two clubs, with the Cyclones taking game one by a 5-1 score on October 31.

The Puck Stops Here: Goaltender Brad Thiessen is at the top of the ECHL's goaltending rankings through his first five starts of the season, posting a 4-0-0-1 record, and leading the League with a 1.18 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage. He earned his fourth win of the season in Friday night's win over Adirondack, and has allowed one goal in four of his five starts.

O From the D: Cincinnati's defensive corps have been finding the scoresheet early in the season. Cyclones defensemen Garrett Noonan and Steve Weinstein scored both goals in Saturday's 2-1 win over Evansville. Noonan also had an assist in Friday's 4-2 win over Adirondack. Noonan leads the team in defenseman scoring with three goals and three assists on the young season, and is also second in plus-minus amongst League defenseman with a +8 rating. Overall, the Cincinnati blueline has been responsible for six goals and seven assists through the first seven games of the season.

Power Supply: For the third time in two weeks, Cincinnati's power play converted twice in a game, going 2-for-4 in Friday's 4-2 win over Adirondack. After finishing last season with the 25th power play in the ECHL, Cincinnati is now fifth in the League, converting on 24% (6-of-25) of man-advantage opportunities.

Playing Stingy: T he Cyclones are currently second in the ECHL with 1.57 goals allowed per game. Cincinnati has let in a league-low seven goals this season, and has only allowed two or more goals on two occasions (10/30- KAL- L, 3-1...11/6- ADK- W, 2-1)

Class is in Session: Tuesday's game in Wheeling against the Nailers marks the first of three school day games for the Cyclones this season. Cincinnati will host its lone school day contest on Tuesday, November 17, against the Alaska Aces, and will participate in a matinee affair in Allen against the Americans on January 18.

Throwback Night: Friday night's game against the Quad City Mallards is the annual Throwback Night at U.S. Bank Arena. The Cyclones will be throwing back the prices with $10 tickets, and $1 hot dogs, soda, pizza and beers. Saturday is also Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to throw onto the ice after the Cyclones score their first goal. The stuffed animals will then be donated to the Cincinnati Police Department to distribute to young victims of crimes, accidents and fires in Cincinnati.
