ECHL Kalamazoo Wings

Steel Magnolia To Perform This Friday

December 9, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce national recording act and CMT's "Can You Duet" Season 2 winners, Steel Magnolia, will perform during the K-Wings home game this Friday, December 11th versus the Toledo Walleye on B-93 Night.

Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones, who make up Steel Magnolia will sing the National Anthem prior to the contest on December 11th. Steel Magnolia will also perform during the first period intermission and sign autographs between the second and third periods. This will be the second time that Steel Magnolia will perform the National Anthem during a sporting event. In October, the duo sang prior to a Pittsburgh Steelers National Football game at Heinz Field.

Next Friday's contest will also be a Frugal Fan Friday, which means Wings Stadium will offer $1 hot dogs and $1 beer.

Steel Magnolia blossomed one late night in March in Nashville's famous, Printer's Alley. It was a bit like magic when Linsey and Jones took the stage and sang together for the first time.

Linsey, a 23-year-old, New Orleans native began performing at a very tender age. By the time she was 15 her love for the stage had already landed her spots opening for some of country's biggest stars such as, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Travis Tritt, Gary Alan, Blake Shelton, and others.

Jones, a 28-year-old, singer/songwriter/rocker hailing from Illinois also began performing very early on. After a borderline homeless stint in Los Angeles playing clubs like the Viper Room, The Knitting Factory, and the Lava Lounge, Josh decided to return to his Midwest Illinois roots and relocate in Nashville. Within a few months after moving to town he had gained the respect of hit songwriters and his single "Long Lovely Night" was picked up by program directors at Nashville's Progressive Radio Station, Lightning 100.

Since the forming of the dynamic, singing, songwriting duo in 2006, record labels and publishers are starting to catch wind and are asking a lot of questions. The sound is soulful, the songs undeniable, and the music is taking people by storm.
