Florida Everblades News Release
Estero, Fl-- The Florida Everblades and the Charlotte Checkers met for the first game of a three game series. Charlotte had a big first period and scored three goals. Florida entered the second down three, but quickly made it a two goal game. The third period opened 3-1 in favor of Charlotte, but goals from Brandon Buck, and Harrison Reed forced the game into over time. The sudden death over time witnessed Ryan Lang tallying his first goal of the game and Florida won 4-3 OT.
The Florida Everblades and the Charlotte Checkers opened the first period with very physical play. The Checkers scored first off of new comer Mike Harder. The goal was assisted by Randy Rowe and Matt Schepke at 8:48. Just over two minutes later Benn Olson (Florida) and T.J.
Reynolds (Charlotte) dropped the gloves and fought until on-ice officials broke up the fight. Both players were awarded five minutes for fighting. Just as the power play ended Charlotte made the score 2-0 when Matt Schepke beat goaltender Barry Brust at 14:39. A.J. Thelen was called for hooking setting Charlotte on its second power play of the game. Kenny Roche took advantage of the situation and shot one home off of Tyler Doig and Michel Leveille, to make the score 3-0.
The second stanza saw a goalie switch for Florida with Mike Morrison replacing Barry Brust. Florida looking to make up a three goal deficit scored with just 26 seconds elapsed in the period. The goal was scored by Matt Duffy with assists from Brandon Buck and Ross Carlson.
The final twenty minutes began with Michel Leveille taking a penalty for tripping. Florida ended its three game power-play tally drought when Brandon Buck, fresh off a stint with the Rochester Americans of the AHL, scored to make it a one goal game. Harrison Reed slipped one past the foot of Milka Wilkman to tie the game 3-3 and force an over time.
The game was decided in a sudden death over time. Ryan Lang tallied the final goal at 2:36 off of team captain Kevin Baker to seal the win.
