Toledo Walleye News Release

Toledo, OH - The Walleye hosted the Wheeling Nailers for the first time at the new Lucas County Arena on Wednesday night. The game was a well-fought, aggressive battle with hard hits all around. After dropping a game in Wheeling on Sunday, Toledo looked for a quick start on the home ice.

Toledo would get that fast start and jumped to a one goal lead early in the first. With 1:01 off the clock, Malcolm MacMillan put the Fish on the board. After getting quick passes from Evan Rankin and Mike Hedden, MacMillan shot through traffic and netted his second goal of the year. The Nailers' Jordan Fox tied it up, however, only 26 seconds later.

The first period ended with the home team trailing 3-2, but Scooter Smith, former Toledo Storm forward, tallied an assist in his first game as a Walleye. Smith passed ahead to Bryan Ewing, who found Chris Robertson for the goal. It was Smith's first point in Toledo since 2007 while with the Storm.

From the first through the third periods, Wheeling scored five unanswered goals for a 7-2 lead. Toledo made a charge with Brock Wilson first Walleye goal, but that would be it for the home team.
