-SPIKES EMBARK ON FIRST ROAD TRIP OF YEAR: The State College Spikes begin a four-game road trip, their first extended excursion away from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in 2014, with a matchup against the Jamestown Jammers. The two clubs finished 1-2 in the New York-Penn League's Pinckney Division last year, with the Spikes earning the division crown and the Jammers a Wild Card berth into the playoffs. State College then defeated Jamestown, 2 games to 1, in the NYPL Semifinal Series before falling in the NYPL Championship Series. The Spikes went 8-2 against the Jammers last year, including a 4-1 mark in games played at Russell Diethrick Park. All-time, State College is 39-41 against Jamestown.

-LAST NIGHT: The State College Spikes erased a ninth-inning deficit to force extra innings, but the Batavia Muckdogs scored four times in the 11th frame to down the Spikes, 8-4, on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Spikes allowed a run in the top of the ninth inning to go down 4-3 entering the bottom half. However, after one-out singles by Leobaldo Pina and Collin Radack, Robelys Reyes delivered a run-scoring single to tie the game back up.

In the 11th, Batavia took advantage of an error, two wild pitches, a walk and a hit batsman to aid their cause. Eric Fisher's two-run single was the centerpiece as the Muckdogs reclaimed the lead for good.

Reyes and Pina each produced three hits for the Spikes in their first extra-inning game of the year.

-PONCEDELEON MAKES PRO DEBUT TONIGHT: Right-hander Daniel Poncedeleon, the ninth-round draft choice of the Cardinals in 2014, gets the mound call tonight for State College in his professional debut. Poncedeleon was the highest-drafted player in the history of the Embry-Riddle University program, as the school is primarily known for its aeronautics program. The right-hander was a Second-Team NAIA All-American and a First Team All-Sun Conference selection after going 9-2 with a 1.60 ERA in 14 starts. Poncedelon also posted 103 strikeouts in 95 2/3 innings. Prior to pitching at Embry-Riddle, Poncedelon spent time at the University of Houston, Cypress Junior College, and the University of Arizona.

-JAMMERS TAP EPPLER TO GO TO THE HILL: Right-hander Tyler Eppler makes the start for the Jammers tonight. Eppler, the Pirates' sixth-round choice in the 2014 MLB Draft, was a Second Team All-Southland Conference selection this past spring at Sam Houston State . The Navasota, TX native went 9-6 with a 3.20 ERA and 67 strikeouts over 109 2/3 innings for the Bearkats in 2014. Eppler also pitched at Texarkana (TX) Junior College, earning all-conference honors there before joining Sam Houston State.

-WICK-ED WITH THE BAT : Rowan Wick has been on a historic tear through the beginning of the Spikes' season, becoming the only player in franchise history with five homers through the season's first five games. The five homers are also tied with 2006 Spike Mark Hamilton for the most in the month of June in club history. Wick's nine RBI are second-most in the New York-Penn League, and his .417 average tops the loop.

-CH-CH-CHANGES : Five players - RHP Steven Farinaro, RHP Dailyn Martinez, LHP Ian McKinney, INF Rafael Medina and INF Chris Rivera - were transferred down to Rookie-level Johnson City on Tuesday after starting the year with the Spikes. OF Brian Vigo-Suarez was also placed on the 7-day DL. To replace them, the Cardinals activated a total of five 2014 draft picks: INF Danny Diekroeger, LHP Austin Gomber, RHP Danny Poncedeleon, OF Chase Raffield and RHP Cody Schumacher. Schumacher and Gomber are slated to start the next two games for the Spikes in what will be the professional debut of each.

-SPIKE MARKS: Nick Thompson saw his streak of at least one RBI in each of his first five professional games come to an end Wednesday, but he is still tied for fourth in the NYPL in RBI behind Wick, Jamestown's Taylor Gushue and Mahoning Valley's Jorge Martinez...Robelys Reyes is now hitting .360, good for the tenth-best average in the NYPL...Wick and Gushue each have six extra-base hits on the year to tie for the NYPL lead...The Jammers have once again received former Spikes infielder Jared Lakind...Lakind transitioned to a pitching role last year, going 2-2 with a 4.56 ERA in 17 appearances
