
CT Tigers Survive in 10 Innings

Burlington, VT - The Connecticut Tigers snuck out victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters by a score of 9-7 at Centennial Field Friday night. The Tigers had 3-0 entering the bottom of the ninth inning until the pitching collapsed. Four walks in the inning along with multiple passed balls allowed for the Lake Monsters to tie the game. In the 10th inning the Tigers grabbed six runs enlarge part thanks to C Franklin Navarro's (1-4) two-run double gave them a 5-3 lead. The Tigers added four more runs to take a 9-3 lead. Vermont came right back with four runs in the bottom of the 10th inning and even managed to bring the potential tying run to the plate.
In his second start of the season, Tigers RHP Tanner Bailey (0-0, 0.00) pitched as well as he did last Sunday at Tri-City. Bailey pitched five scoreless innings and gave up three hits while striking out four batters. The Tigers used four relievers to combine for five innings and allowed seven runs on four hits while walking five batters. RHP Johnnie Kirkland (1-1) picked up the win pitching 1.1 innings and allowing four runs on two hits. RHP Cesar Burgos (S, 1) picked up his first save of the season as he pitched 0.2 innings. Lake Monster's RHP Jonathan Massad (0-1) suffered the loss as he pitched 1.1 innings and gave up six runs on five hits all coming in the 10th inning.
The Tigers offense struggled with only four runs scored over the last 35 innings, but scored nine runs off of 11 hits tonight. As a team they were 6-18 with runners in scoring position. The team didn't help their cause early in the baseball game as they left 11 on base. 2B Brett Pirtle (2-4) chipped in with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI's. DH Orvin Tovar (2-5), 3B Joey Pankake (2-5), and CF Ross Kivett (2-5) each added a pair of hits and at least one RBI in the game. PR-DH Rashad Brown's (0-1) hitting streak came to an end at seven games.
The Tigers take on the Lake Monsters in game two of their three-game series tomorrow night. Tigers RHP Austin Pritcher (0-0, 0.00) is slated to face Vermont's RHP Lee Sosa (0-0, 0.00). Pre-game radio coverage begins at 5:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WHICH and online at www.cttigers.com.
