Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY -The Jamestown Jammers saw their losing streak hit five Friday night on WCA Hospital's Pink the Park night at Diethrick Park, as they came up short against the State College Spikes by the score of 5-3.
Holding a 3-2 lead heading into the top of the ninth, the Jammers seemed destined to snap their skid. However, the State College Spikes, and first basemen Alex De Leon had other plans. De Leon connected on a solo home run off Jammer reliever Eric Karch to knot the game at 3 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Then in the top of the tenth, shortstop Leobaldo Pina started the rally with a one out double, and then scored on an RBI single by center fielder Jhohan Acevedo. Acevedo then scored on a ball hit by second basemen Danny Diekroeger that was misfielded by Jammer shortstop Tyler Filliben. The Jammers were unable to mount an offensive rally in the bottom part of the tenth.
The Spikes started the scoring Friday Night early. The second batter of the game, Diekroeger, would launch one over the right field wall to give the Spikes an early 1-0 lead.
The Jammers would answer in the bottom of the second inning after a Chase Simpson walk, Deybi Garcia single, and Erik Forgione RBI single. Jordan Luplow would then make the score 2-1 in favor of the Jammers, with a solo home run (his first professional home run) in the bottom of the third.
2-1 would remain the score until State College right fielder Rowan Wick hit his sixth home run of the year in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 2.
However, Jamestown would take the lead back in the bottom of the eighth after a lead-off single by Luplow, who then advanced to third on the play via an error by Wick (the State College right fielder). Simpson then drove Luplow in on a Sac Fly, which would eventually set the stage for State College's rally.
Tyler Eppler got the start for the Jammers, and went four innings, giving up two hits (one being the solo home run in the first by Diekroeger), and striking out two Spikes.
The Jammers and Spikes will meet tomorrow at 7:05pm once again. On the mound for the Jammers will be right-handed pitcher Alex McRae. He will be opposed by Cody Schumacher of the State College Spikes. The first 500 fans through the gate at Diethrick Park will receive a cowbell courtesy of eaglezip.com.
