Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD - The Aberdeen IronBirds lost a back-and-forth game this evening, as they fell 7-6 to the Brooklyn Cyclones. The IronBirds kept it tied until the eighth inning, but the Cyclones put up three runs in the final two innings to take the victory.

IronBirds' starter Stephen Tarpley had a rough top of the first. He struck out the first two batters and then allowed back-to-back singles. The next batter, Michael Bernal, hit a triple, scorign both Tomas Nido and Michael Katz.

In the bottom of the first, catcher Alex Murphy cut the Cyclones' lead in half, blasting a home run high over the left field wall and into the Cyclones' bullpen.

Aberdeen would score again in the second inning. A sac-fly by Oswill Lartiguez scored Riley Palmer and the game was tied at two.

The Cyclones struck again in the top of the third, regaining the lead with another RBI triple by Bernal, which was followed two batters later by an RBI single by Jeffrey Diehl, and the Cyclones led 4-2.

The IronBirds tied it back at four in the bottom of the third, as a balk scored Justin Viele and a Riley Palmer single scored Stephen Wilkerson. Palmer, the IronBirds' designated hitter, finished his night three for five with an RBI and two runs scored.

Alex Santana, who relieved Tarpley after 2.1 innings, retired 14 in a row, starting in the bottom of the third. He recorded seven strikeouts in the game.

Justin Viele singled in the fifth inning with no outs and advanced to third on a stolen base and a throwing error by the catcher, but was left stranded after three straight IronBirds were retired.

The IronBirds would break the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Viele hit a single with the bases loaded, scoring Palmer and Manny Hernandez.

The Cyclones tied it back up at six in the top of the eighth though, as Tyler Moore and Tucker Tharp both had RBI singles off reliever Derrick Bleeker.

Brooklyn regained the lead in the top of the ninth with a Michael Katz sac-fly off of Brady Adamek.

With the loss, Aberdeen fell to 1-7, with six of those losses being by just one run. Bleeker takes the loss, falling to 0-1.

Dylan Bundy (0-1, 1.80) will make his first career start at Ripken Stadium tomorrow, as he'll face RHP Marcos Molina (1-0, 1.50). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
