-SPIKES START SECOND HALF OF ROAD TRIP AGAINST RENEGADES: Tonight, the State College Spikes continue their 10th Season as they take on the Hudson Valley Renegades in the opener of a three-game series at Dutches Stadium. The Spikes seek to get back on track after a trio of one-run losses, the last in 14 innings, to Aberdeen in the first half of the six-game road swing. The series against the Renegades is a rematch of last year's NYPL Semifinal Series, which the Spikes won in three games on their way to the league championship. State College is 11-18 all-time against Hudson Valley, with a 5-8 record at Dutchess Stadium that includes a loss in Game 1 of the 2014 Semifinal Series.
-LAST GAME: In the second-longest game in State College Spikes history, Mike Pritchard came through with a game-tying, two-out single in the ninth, but the Aberdeen IronBirds prevailed, 6-5, in 14 innings on Thursday night at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. The four-hour, 36-minute contest trailed only the 15-inning, five-hour game the Spikes played against Batavia on August 30, 2014 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the longest game in franchise history. The game was the longest the Spikes have ever played on the road. Pritchard's two-out single in the ninth enabled State College to keep the game going after a 4-0 lead evaporated. The liner to left scored pinch-runner Champ Rowland to tie the game, 5-5. However, with two outs in the bottom of the 14th, Drew Turbin hit a groundball to the right side that second baseman Josh Swirchak fielded and tossed to pitcher Luke Harrison, but Harrison's foot was ruled off the base and Kirvin Mosquit scored to end the game.
-PEREZ MAKES START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Juan Perez, who was named the New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week for July 13-19, gets the ball for State College tonight in his sixth start of the year. Perez tied a Spikes record with 10 strikeouts last time out against Batavia, tossing seven scoreless innings in the process. The righty out of San Felipe, Venezuela allowed just two hits and two walks in throwing 85 pitches over his time on the mound on Saturday. Perez has not made a road start since July 4, and is 1-1 on the road with a 3.38 ERA.
-RENEGADES SEND YEPEZ TO MOUND: Right-hander Angel Yepez makes his sixth start of the year for Hudson Valley this evening. In his last outing, Yepez yielded one run on four hits and a walk while striking out three batters over five innings on Saturday at Connecticut. The Barinas, Venezuela native did not receive a decision in the effort. Yepez has struck out 25 batters and walked just six, but has allowed 23 hits over 25 innings of work. The righty tossed six no-hit innings on July 6 at Staten Island, but has twice allowed seven or more hits in a start.
-SPIKES WELCOME BACK TWO FAMILIAR FACES: In the wake of last night's marathon, the Spikes added two players from Single-A Peoria with previous State College experience today in right-handed pitcher Kevin Alexander and outfielder Jhohan Acevedo. Alexander made a single appearance for the Spikes in the last week of the 2014 regular season. Acevedo returns to the Spikes after beginning the 2015 season with State College. The outfielder hit .263 with a double and eight runs batted in over 24 games in Peoria. Both players were part of last year's NYPL champs.
-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson is still at or near the top of several leaderboards in the New York-Penn League. The University of Houston product is back to first in the NYPL in batting average with a .343 mark, and his .433 on-base percentage is third in the league. Grayson also occupies spots in the NYPL's top five in hits (T-2nd, 37) and runs batted in (4th, 21).
-SPIKE MARKS: Mike Pritchard is tied for second in the NYPL in runs scored with 21...Jorge Rodriguez has held batters to a .188 average, third-best among NYPL starters, and his 2.43 ERA is seventh-best in the league...Pedro Echemendia's 11 appearances are tied for second-most in the NYPL
