Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

BURLINGTON, VT-The Connecticut Tigers (16-17) fell in the first of three games with the Vermont Lake Monsters (14-19) by a final score of 1-0. A day after Connecticut scored 11 runs on 17 hits they manage just five hits.

For Connecticut it snapped a four game winning streak and it dropped them back below .500 on the season. Vermont after losing two of three games to Auburn at home has a chance to win the series tomorrow after losing two out of three in Norwich earlier in the season.

On a night where pitching dominated the offensive hero was Vermont first basemen Chris Iriart who launched a solo home run leading off the second inning. The home run came off Tigers starter Tyler Alexander (0-1) and it was the first run he had allowed on the season. He had previously pitched 16 scoreless innings. For Iriart it was his third home run of the season.

The win on the night went to Heath Bowers (2-1) who worked three innings allowing just a single hit and striking out four. James Naile (SV 4) pitching two shut out innings to seal the deal.

Josh Heddinger pitched extremely well for Connecticut in relief of Alexander as he threw five scoreless innings. Heddinger retired the first 11 batters he faced.

Connecticut will play at Vermont tomorrow in the second game of a three game series. The first pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76 game schedule that runs from mid June through early September. 2015 season tickets, group tickets, mini plans, individual game tickets, and team merchandise are now on sale! The front office and ticket office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be accessed in person or by calling 860-887-7962.
