Brooklyn Falls Just Short To Mahoning Valley, 4-3

NILES, OH - As Cyclones offense struggled to finish with numbers on the board during their debut game in Buckeye State, Brooklyn took a tough a 4-3 loss to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Friday night to extend their losing streak to four straight games. Collectively, the 'Clones went 3 for 14 with runners in scoring position and stranded a total of 11 runners on base. Right-hander Tyler Badamo (1-4, 3.59) takes the loss after putting in 6.0 innings of work, allowing four hits, four runs, all earned, walking two and striking out three.

Brooklyn began the game with a lone run in the second. Rojas lead off the inning with a ground ball single while Brandon Brosher and Jose Garcia were both sent walking to load the bases with Cyclones. Pedro Perez then stepped up and grounded into a force out to bring Rojas home, giving Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.

The Scrappers countered with a powerful offensive rally in the third. After a pair of back-to-back singles, Badamo sent a Mahoning Valley slugger walking to load the bases. Another single would keep runners at every base and notch the Scrappers' first run of the frame. Struggling with his composure and control in the tight pinch, Badamo sent another batter walking and a single to follow would score three more runs for Mahoning Valley as they took a 4-1 lead.

The Boys of Summer responded to the deficit with sparks of the offensive fire that's been missing in their latest match ups. Zach Mathieu lead off the fifth with a double to right field and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Mahoning Valley's Leandro Linares with Perez at bat. The first baseman then hit a ground ball single and advanced to second on an error by the Scrappers' centerfielder while Mathieu scored one for the 'Clones. A single by Tucker Tharp brought Perez home and shrunk Mahoning Valley's lead to 3-4.

Brooklyn's chance to take the rubber game came in the seventh. After Tharp was sent walking, a pair of singles by Branden Kaupe and Alfredo Reyes loaded the bases with Cyclones yet again with one out. However, Brooklyn bats ere unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity as the next two sluggers struck out to end the inning and the Cyclones chance at a comeback.

Brooklyn looks to end their four-game losing skid Saturday night in the second game of their series against the Scrappers. Right-hander Gaby Almonte (3-2, 2.78) will take the mound for Brooklyn at Eastwood Field as the teams kickoff the match up at 7:05 PM. The Cyclones make their way back home to MCU Park next Wednesday, June 29th to take on the Hudson Valley Renegades on Juan Lagares Golden Bobble Glove Night.
