-SPIKES HEAD HOME FOR BIG WEEKEND: The State College Spikes, who now hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race, continue their 10th Season this evening with the first game of a two-game weekend mini-series against Pinckney Division rivals, the West Virginia Black Bears. The Spikes look to maintain a half-game lead over Lowell, and try and cut into a 5 1/2-game deficit behind Williamsport in the division. Meanwhile, West Virginia sits in fifth place, 3 1/2 games back. State College is 6-3 against the Black Bears this year, and took two of three games from West Virginia at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park from July 1-3.

-LAST GAME: The Spikes extended their winning streak to seven games as Jacob Evans, Steven De La Cruz and Kender Villegas combined to post the Spikes' second straight shutout in a 9-0 win over the Brooklyn Cyclones on Friday night at MCU Park. Evans allowed just two hits and two walks over a career-long six innings for the win. The right-hander also recorded five strikeouts in his second professional start, and retired ten straight batters at one point. De La Cruz took over in the seventh and yielded two hits and a walk while striking out two batters over two innings. Villegas then finished the game with two strikeouts in a hitless ninth. State College posted back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season, following a pair of blankings at Mahoning Valley on June 26-27. The Spikes' trio of hurlers got plenty of support from the offense, which drew 11 walks and collected nine hits.

-RODRIGUEZ HEADS TO HILL: State College right-hander Jorge Rodriguez, who is third in the New York-Penn League in earned run average, makes his tenth start for the Spikes tonight. Rodriguez had a strong outing last time out in State College, giving up just one run on five hits, a walk and a hit batsman over six innings. The San Cristobal, Dominican Republic native also struck out three in the effort. Rodriguez has faced West Virginia twice this season, taking a loss on July 2 at home before tossing six shutout innings for the win at Monongalia County Ballpark on July 16.

-McGARRY THE MAN FOR BLACK BEARS: West Virginia will put right-hander Seth McGarry on the mound tonight for his seventh start with the club. McGarry allowed just one run on five hits and three walks while striking out six over 4 2/3 innings at Williamsport on Monday. The Pirates' eighth-round draft choice in 2015 out of Florida Atlantic, McGarry was a college teammate of 2014 Spikes pitcher Austin Gomber and current Spikes reliever Kevin Alexander. This season, righties are hitting just 1.76 against him, while lefties his .256 and reach base at a .389 clip against him

-FIVE SPIKES HEADED TO NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: Casey Grayson, Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Landon Beck and Juan Perez were all selected to the South roster for the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, as announced by the league last Saturday. The quintet ties a Spikes record for most players headed to the annual showcase of future stars, last set in 2013. The All-Star Game is set to take place on Tuesday, August 18 at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium, home of the Aberdeen IronBirds.

-SPIKE MARKS: State College's seven-game winning streak is the longest active string in the NYPL...Right-handed pitcher Jery Then was promoted to Single-A Peoria yesterday...Landon Beck is tied with Tyler Badamo, who started on Wednesday for Brooklyn against him, for the second-most strikeouts in the league with 51...Beck has whiffed 24 batters over his last 16 1/3 innings...Pedro Echemendia leads the NYPL with 18 appearances...Grayson is third in the NYPL in on-base percentage at .421
