State College Spikes News Release
(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The State College Spikes set a single-game attendance record at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Saturday as 6,105 fans filled the ballpark for the Spikes' matchup against West Virginia.
The record crowd breaks the previous mark of 6,066, set less than a year ago when the Spikes finished their 2014 regular season home slate on August 30 of that year against Batavia.
"We would like to thank all of our great fans who helped us make history tonight," said Spikes General Manager Scott Walker. "This special night adds to the collection of great moments that we've been able to share with our fans in 10 seasons of Spikes baseball at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park."
Fans on hand were thrilled by the return of Tim "Wild Thang" Lepard and Team GhostRiders as the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo served as a featured attraction for the night. The one-of-a-kind act delighted the crowd with in-game performances as well as a post-game grand finale.
The Spikes also maintained their New York-Penn League Wild Card lead on Saturday with a 7-5 comeback victory over the division rival Black Bears to run their winning streak to eight consecutive games.
The Spikes complete their big two-game series against the Black Bears on Sunday as the skies over Central PA will light up like never before as the spectacular Pyro Musical FIREWORKS show takes place after the 6:05 p.m. game against the Black Bears. First National Bank will present the show, combining music and fireworks to create the biggest display Spikes fans will see all season.
It's also Star Wars Night at the ballpark, and fans are encouraged to donate to a special clothing drive at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, presented by First National Bank, to benefit the Centre County United Way. Any fan donating to Sunday's clothing drive will also receive a 10% off coupon for the Off the Rack Outfitters team store.
The Spikes will pay tribute to the seat of Centre County as well on Bellefonte Community Night, presented by Swartz Fire & Safety Equipment, as part of the Community Nights series presented by CATACOMMUTE.
The Sunday fun also includes Kids Day, presented by First National Bank, with a pre-game catch on the field and Kids Run the Bases after the game thanks to Clinical Outcomes Group, Inc. Kids12 and under will also get a free hot dog, chips, soda and a one-time free play pass for Ike's KidsZone thanks to Dairy Queen Grill & Chill.
