Hudson Valley Wins Big Over Brooklyn

Wappingers Falls, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones by a score of 7-1 on Saturday evening at Dutchess Stadium. With the victory, the Renegades saw their record improve to 26-28 while Brooklyn fell to 25-29.

The first four innings went by scoreless as both starting pitchers, Michael Velasquez for Hudson Valley and Gaby Almonte for Brooklyn, combined to allow one hit during that stretch.

Brooklyn struck for a run in the top of the fifth inning as with one out, catcher Manuel Hilario tripled into the right field corner and came around to score on a wild pitch later in the inning to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

The Renegades responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as right fielder Jose Paez and catcher Danny De La Calle each singled and came around to score on a two-run double by shortstop Michael Russell. Designated hitter Hector Montes drove in Russell later in the inning on a double down the left field line to give Hudson Valley a 3-1. That ended the night for Almonte (6-3), who allowed three earned runs in four and two-thirds innings pitched in the loss.

The Renegades extended their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning as Paez led off the inning with a single, stole second base and scored on a RBI single from De La Calle.

Hudson Valley extended their lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning as two runs came off of a double off the bat from Montes and the third run of the frame came on a RBI ground out by third baseman Matt Dacey.

Velasquez (2-4) earned the win for Hudson Valley as he allowed one run off two hits in five innings pitched while striking out a season-high seven batters. Cris Crisostomo and Reece Karalus each tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to wrap up the night for the Renegades.
