Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

STATEN ISLAND, NY --- Drew Bridges hit a go ahead two-run homer and starter Domingo Acevedo allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings as the Staten Island Yankees snapped a three-game winning streak for the Vermont Lake Monsters with a 7-2 New York-Penn League victory Saturday night at Richmond County Ballpark.

Brett Siddall gave Vermont a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a leadoff home run, his second of the season, but Acevedo (1-0) settled down to retire the next 13 Lake Monsters in order before a Jordan Devencenzi one-out infield single in the sixth inning.

The Yankees tied the game at one on a Thairo Estrada RBI single in the third inning off Vermont starter Corey Miller, who then gave up the two-run homer to Bridges with two outs in the fourth inning. Miller (1-2), making his first start for the Lake Monsters after 10 relief appearances, allowed three runs on five hits over four innings to take the loss.

Staten Island added a pair of runs in the sixth off reliever Kevin Ferreras, including a Trey Amburgery RBI double, and two more runs in the eighth off on a two-out, two-run Eduardo De Oleo single off Jared Lyons. Seth Brown connected on Vermont's second home run of the game with two outs in the top of the ninth. The Lake Monsters are now 10-15 this season when they hit at least one home run in a game, while 3-15 when their opponent hits at least one home run.

Zack Zehner went 3-for-4 with one run and Kevin Cornelius 2-for-4 with two runs for Staten Island (27-26), which remains a half-game in front of Aberdeen for first-place in the McNamara Division with the victory. Brown was 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season for Vermont (25-29), which has lost nine of its last 10 games played at Staten Island and is just 10-27 all-time at Richmond County Ballpark all-time since 2001.

Vermont and Staten Island will wrap up the quick two-game series on Sunday at 4:00 pm before both teams take two days off for the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on Tuesday at Aberdeen. The Lake Monsters return home for a two-game series against the Tri-City ValleyCats on Wednesday and Thursday at historic Centennial Field.
