August 15, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Staten Island Yankees News Release

After being swept the Williamsport Crosscutters, the Staten Island Yankees (27-26) bounced back with an easy victory against the Vermont Lake Monsters (25-29), 7-2.

Brett Siddall put the Lake Monsters on the board in the second inning with his second home run of the season for a 1-0 lead for Vermont.

Staten Island bounced back in the third inning. Jeff Hendrix drew a walk from Vermont starter Corey Miller (L, 1-2) then advanced to second on a wild pitch. All-star Thairo Estrada drove Hendrix in to tie the game with a single to center field.

The Yankees grabbed the lead and never let go in the fourth inning. After Trey Amburgey was hit by a batted ball off the bat of Zack Zehner then Drew Bridges smashed a two-run homer to right-center to put the Baby Bombers on top, 3-1.

Staten Island kept the bats alive in the sixth inning. Kevin Cornelius singled then advanced to second on a throwing error by Vermont third baseman Trace Loehr. In his Staten Island debut, outfielder Trey Amburgey, who went 2-for-3, doubled to left field to score Cornelius. Amburgey then attempted to steal third and scored on a throwing error by Lake Monster catcher Jordan Devencenzi to make the score 5-2 in favor of Staten Island.

The Yankees added insurance runs in the eighth. Cornelius and Amburgey collected back-to-back singles then Zehner helped load the bases with another single. Eduardo de Oleo then plated two runs with a single to center, making the score 7-1.

Vermont was able to put one more run on the board, courtesy of a solo home run by Seth Brown, his second bomb of the season, but it wasn't enough for the win.

The two teams face off again Sunday at 4 p.m. before heading into the All-Star break for Italian Heritage Night. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
