'Days Split Twin Bill with Dogs

AUBURN, NY - The Doubledays and Muckdogs split a doubleheader on Saturday night. Auburn took game one, a make-up of the July 9th rainout, 9-3 with Batavia winning game two by the score of of 8-5.

GAME 1:

The Doubledays took an early lead in game one and never looked back. In the first inning, Auburn's first four hitters all recorded singles, the fifth and six hitters reached on errors, the seven and nine hitters grounded out while the eight hitter doubled. After one inning in game one, the 'Days led the Dogs 5-0.

It wasn't until the third that Batavia finally responded. With one out, Galvi Moscat singled to left. He then came around to score on a triple to right by Anfernee Seymour. One batter later, Seymour walked in from third on a groundout to short by Taylor Munden to put the score at 5-2.

Auburn responded quickly in the bottom of the third. Diomedes Eusebio and Melvin Rodriguez led off with back-to-back singles before Eusebio advanced to third on a double play. Eusebio then scored on an RBI double by Jake Jefferies to right, his second of the night.

In the very next inning with the score at 6-2. Batavia scored on the first two batters. Brad Haynal doubled to right and scored from third on Roy Morales' single to right to put the score at 6-3.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Doubledays scored two more. Rhett Wiseman knocked in Victor Robles on an RBI single to right and Eusebio brought in Kelvin Gutierrez on a sacrifice fly to give the Doubledays an 8-3 lead.

The final run of game one came in the fifth. With one out, Jake Jefferies singled to left. He stole second, advanced to third on a fly out, and then walked in from third on an error on Anfernee Seymour. After five it was 9-3 Doubledays.

In the bottom of the ninth with the Doubledays up 9-3, Mariano Rivera III came in to face the Muckdogs' 1-2-3 hitters. The righty set them down in order to preserve the victory.

GAME 2:

After a scoreless first and top of the second, the Doubledays' offense woke up in the second. With one out, Eusebio singled to left. He advanced to second when Ian Sagdal walked and then the bases becmae loaded when Darryl Florentino was hit by a pitch. Eusebio eventually scored on an error on the catcher while Sagdal scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Erik VanMeetren. After two, the Doubledays led 2-0.

In the third, the Muckdogs quickly took the lead. With one out, Brandon Rawe singled, Anfernee Seymour reached on an error, and Taylor Munden was safe at first on a fielder's choice. Stone Garrett then dug in with two outs, and knocked them all in with a bases clearing double to give Batavia a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Doubledays struck back. Max Schrock singled before Gutierrez, Wiseman, and Eusebio doubled back-to-back-to-back to put Auburn up 5-3.

An inning later in the fourth, the Muckdogs tied it up at 5-5. Erwin Almonte was hit by a pitch before Batavia's six and seven hitters were quickly retired. Almonte then moved to second on a two out single by Galvi Moscat before Rawe walked to load the bases. Seymour then dug in and knocked Almonte and Moscat in to tie it up at 5-5.

Batavia took a lead it would never give up in the fifth. Stone Garrett doubled to lead off the frame before Brad Haynal followed that up with a double to bring in Garret. Haynal later scored from second on an RBI single by Almonte and the Muckdogs took a 7-5 lead.

The final run of game two came across in the seventh. Munden led off with a walk and two batters later scored on an RBI double by Haynal to put Batavia up 8-5.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Doubledays 1-2-3 hitters all grounded out as the 'Days fell in game two 8-5.

The rubber match of the series is Sunday at 2:05 PM. Matthew Crownover takes the ball for Auburn against Brett Lilek for Batavia.
