The Scrappers (24-29) entered Saturday night's game on a two-game losing streak, and coming into Bowman Field looking to top the Cutters (35-20). They not only snapped the losing streak, but officially took the season series with six wins in a 3-0 shutout.

Leandro Linares went three innings and did not give up any hits. Matt Esparza (2-0) came in and tossed four innings while allowing just two hits. Esparza struck out a season-high seven batters en route to the win.

The Scrappers got to Alejandro Arteaga (4-1) early. The Scrappers scored a run in the first on an RBI single for Daniel Salters. In the top of the second, Nate Winfrey scored on an RBI single for Austin Fisher.

Linares and Esparza combined to leave the Cutters hitless through five and one-third innings, but Zach Coppola had a bunt single to snap that.

Mahoning Valley added one final run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single for Jodd Carter.

The Scrappers go for the two-game sweep on Sunday against the Cutters. Shao-Ching Chiang looks to bounce back from allowing five runs against the Spikes his last time out. Franklyn Kilome goes for the Cutters. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05. Mahoning Valley will also look to go 4-1 at Bowman Field this season.
