Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

The Scrappers (23-29) were looking to close out the Renegades (25-28) in the rubber game heading into a crucial two-game series with the Crosscutters, but instead, they were shutout in back-to-back games after a 7-0 loss to the Renegades on Friday night.

As it typically is for Kieran Lovegrove (1-5), he has one rough inning. On Friday night, it was the third. Angel Moreno led off with a double. Joe McCarthy followed with a walk. Manny Sanchez popped up to first, which created a routine double play situation with two runners on and one out. Alex Schmidt walked. Moreno and McCarthy scored on a two-run single for Hector Montes. A Nic Wilson sacrifice fly then scored Alex Schmidt. The bleeding finally stopped for Lovegrove and the Scrappers.

The Renegades added one run in each of the last three innings to secure not only the win, but the series victory. In the top of the seventh, Angel Moreno hit his second home run of the year, and his second home run of the series.

In the top of the eighth, Taylor Hawkins (double), scored on a Jake Cronenworth sacrifice fly to left.

Hudson Valley got one more in the ninth on an RBI single for Montes.

Each game in this three game series was a shutout. Mahoning Valley shut out Hudson Valley in the first game, and now the Scrappers have not scored a run in 21 innings.

Lovegrove took the loss after tossing just three innings and giving up four runs, three of them earned, and five hits. He also walked three and did not record a strikeout.

Cameron Varga (2-4) took the W. He went six innings and did not allow a run.

Scrappers pitching again struggled with command, despite a great three innings from Cortland Cox, who only gave up one hit.

The Scrappers have played well against the Crosscutters this season. They are 2-1 at Bowman Field and the last time they went to Bowman Field, it sparked a stretch of about two great weeks for the Scrappers. First pitch on Saturday is at 7:05. Leandro Linares matches up with Alejandro Arteaga.
