SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, defeated the Texas Legends 112-111 at Comerica Center this afternoon to complete their three-game road trip.
Three Stars players reached the 20-point threshold, led by Utah Jazz two-way player Justin Wright-Foreman, who finished with 25 points on 9-of-17 (.529) from the floor and 5-of-7 (.714) from long distance. Fellow Jazz two-way player Jarrell Brantley tallied 24 points, his third consecutive 20-point effort and fifth in the last six games. Trevon Bluiett recorded his fifth 20-point game of the season with 23 points on 8-of-9 (.889) shooting and a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc, while Kyle Collinsworth tallied his second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Legends were paced by Dakota Mathias, who finished with 25 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals, while Aric Holman led all reserves with 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Brandon Fields (13 points), Yudai Baba (13 points), Antonius Cleveland (12 points) and Jahmal McMurray (10 points) also scored in double figures for Texas.
There were nine lead changes and two ties in the first quarter, with Texas ending the period with a three-point edge (29-26). The Legends expanded their lead to 13 points with 5:02 left in the second quarter, but Salt Lake City responded with an 18-2 run and closed the half with a three-point advantage (52-49). Bluiett posted 19 points in the first half for the Stars, 12 of which came from behind the three-point line.
The Stars outshot (.684-.227) and outscored (36-18) the Legends in the third quarter to take a 21-point lead (88-67), but Texas fought back in the final frame as they outpaced the Stars 44-24 in the period. With seconds left in the game, the Legends cut the advantage to two points (112-110) but missed on 2-of-3 free throws and the Stars came away with the one-point victory (112-111).
Salt Lake City grabbed more rebounds (45-41), tallied more points in the paint (52-38) and outshot Texas from the field (.512-.432) and three-point range (.500-.364). The Legends held the advantage in turnovers (8-16), assists (25-20), steals (8-3) and bench points (46-14).
The Stars will return to Salt Lake City to begin a six-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 22, against the Agua Caliente Clippers (Los Angeles Clippers affiliate). The game tips off at 7 p.m. (MT) at Bruin Arena and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
