Texas Stars News Release
Abbotsford, BC - The Texas Stars (21-11-2-2, 46 points) defeated the Abbotsford Heat (16-16-1-3, 36 points) 3-0 on Friday night in front of 3,261 fans at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. Goalie Tyler Beskorowany (3-4-0) made 25 saves for his first AHL shutout, helping the Stars extend their points streak to a season-high seven games (5-0-1-1). Forwards Fabian Brunnstrom, Raymond Sawada and Mathieu Tousignant each scored as Texas moved within one point of first place in the West Division. Stars center Travis Morin had two assists, as Texas improved to 10-5-0-1 on the road this season. Abbotsford goalie Leland Irving (15-12-1) stopped 21 of 23 Texas shots in the defeat. The Stars will wrap up their five-game road trip on Friday, January 7th at 7:00 PM in San Antonio.
Texas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring just 57 seconds into the first period. For the third straight game Fabian Brunnstrom got on the board, putting in a rebound off a Travis Morin shot. Defenseman Brad Lukowich also had an assist on Brunnstrom's eighth goal of the season. Texas doubled its lead at 11:57 when right wing Ray Sawada shuffled in a rebound for the 2-0 Stars lead. Morin and defenseman Philip Larsen set up Sawada's seventh goal of the year, a power-play goal that sent the Stars to the intermission with a two-goal lead.
After a scoreless second period, the Stars sealed the win after an empty-net goal by Mathieu Tousignant with only seven seconds left in regulation for the final score of 3-0.
Prior to the game, the Texas Stars announced that forward Tristan King has been assigned to the Idaho Steelheads, Texas' ECHL affiliate. The 20-year old rookie has played in 11 games for Texas this season, scoring two goals and totaling four points. In a previous stint with the Steelheads, King set up three goals and collected four points in six games.
