Syracuse, NY (December 31, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that The Anaheim Ducks have acquired center Maxim Lapierre from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Brett Festerling and a fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Lapierre, 25, has appeared in all 38 contests for the Canadiens this season, scoring 8 points (5g, 3a) with 63 penalty minutes. He led the club in both hits (104) and penalty minutes. He had a career year in 2008-09 when the 6-2, 207-pound center scored 28 points (15g, 13a) with 76 penalty minutes. Lapierre scored his first career hat trick, including the game-winning goal on December 29, 2008 at Florida. A native of St. Leonard, Quebec, Lapierre made his NHL debut for Montreal on November 15, 2005 vs. Florida and scored his first career NHL goal on December 14, 2006 vs. Tampa Bay.

Selected by Montreal in the second round, 61st overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Lapierre has appeared in 293 career NHL contests, scoring 80 points (40g, 40a) with 284 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 35 career Stanley Cup Playoff contests, scoring 7 points (3g, 4a) with 52 penalty minutes. He advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals with the Canadiens in 2009-10, scoring the game-winning goal in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals vs. Pittsburgh on May 10, 2010.

Festerling, 24, appeared in 32 games for the Crunch season and leads the team in scoring among defensemen with 12 points (3g, 9a) and 41 penalty minutes. He appeared in one contest for Anaheim this season, going scoreless. In 83 career NHL contests, the Quesnel, British Columbia native has scored 8 points (0g, 8a) with 33 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating. Signed by Anaheim as a free agent on Sept. 14, 2005, Festerling has also collected 38 points (6g, 32a) with 163 penalty minutes in 168 career AHL contests.

The Crunch continue their season-high seven-game road trip with a New Year's Day match-up at Rochester on Saturday, January 1 at 7:35 p.m. Syracuse returns home to The Oncenter War Memorial Arena on January 15 for a 7:30 p.m. contest vs. rival Rochester.
