Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Two first period goals and a 23-save performance from Philippe Desrosiers was the difference for the Texas Stars in a 3-1 win over the Chicago Wolves on Friday night at Cedar Park Center in front of a crowd of 4,363.
The win was the first at the AHL level for Desrosiers, who lost his shutout bid with 56 seconds remaining in regulation on the Wolves' only goal. Jason Dickinson tallied two assists to extend his point streak to five games for the Stars, and Texas scored twice on the power play to snap a three-game winless skid.
The Stars (18-14-3-3) and Wolves (16-14-1-2) finish off their two-game set on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cedar Park Center.
The Stars used an early power play to open up the scoring with Greg Rallo feeding Travis Morin on the doorstep to snap in his 11th goal of the season at 3:03 in the first. Rallo then scored his 13th of the year from the front of the net when a pass from Dickinson pulled Chicago goaltender Jordan Binnington out of position and set up the Stars' veteran for the easy goal at 7:07.
Back on the power play in the second, Dickinson sprung a 3-0 lead at 4:44 as he teed up Julius Honka for a one-time shot in the left circle for his seventh of the year. The Stars continued their swarming play by holding the Wolves to just four shots in the frame, positioning the rookie Desrosiers to manage the goaltending in the third.
Jeremie Blain's goal with just under a minute to play in regulation put the Wolves on the board.
Binnington halted 29 shots in the loss for Chicago. Rallo's first period assist for the Stars was 200th of his pro career, and the Chicago native leads all skaters in the season series with five points against the Wolves (4-15) in three games.
The Stars finished 2-for-5 on the man advantage while Chicago ended the game 0-for-2. The Texas power play has been dominant in the season series going 7-for-16 against Chicago (43.7%).
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
