
IceCaps Stymied by Pirates

ST. JOHN'S, NL - Returning to action for the first time at home in the New Year, the St. John's IceCaps fell 5-1 to the Portland Pirates Friday at Mile One Centre.
All-Star Rob Schremp led the way for Portland with a goal and two assists while Mike McKenna stopped 29-of-30 shots.
Zach Fucale was busy for St. John's, facing 36 shots and stopping 32, including 18-of-20 in the opening frame. Bud Holloway notched the lone IceCaps goal of the night on the power play in the second period, breaking a streak of 29 straight penalties killed by the Pirates.
The win gives the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the four-game Eimskip Port-to-Port Challenge Cup series, while the loss for St. John's was just its second in regulation at home all season (8-2-4-1).
Saturday night the IceCaps and Pirates meet for the second of two at Mile One (7:30 PM NST). Tickets are still available at the Mile One Box Office in-person (12-5 daily) or at www.mileonecentre.com.
