
Capitals Recall Carey from Hershey; Re-Assign Stanton

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have recalled forward Paul Carey from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned defenseman Ryan Stanton to Hershey, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
Carey, 27, has earned one assist and four penalty minutes in 22 career NHL games with the Avalanche. The 6'1", 200-pound forward made his NHL debut on March 12, 2014, vs. Chicago and played in 12 of Colorado's final 17 contests in 2013-14. Carey appeared in 10 games with the Avalanche in 2014-15 and earned his first NHL point with an assist on Feb. 16 against Arizona. He was selected by Colorado in the fifth round, 135th overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft and signed with Washington as a free agent on July 8, 2015.
Carey registered 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 35 games with Hershey (AHL) this season and ranks second on the team in goals and points. The Boston native registered 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 60 games with Lake Erie and Providence (AHL) last season and has recorded 119 points (54 goals, 65 assists) and 113 penalty minutes in 223 career AHL games with Lake Erie, Providence and Hershey.
Stanton, 26, registered 27 points (four goals, 23 assists) and 69 penalty minutes in 119 career NHL games with the Blackhawks and Canucks. He appeared in 54 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season and recorded 11 points (three goals, eight assists) and 35 penalty minutes. Stanton set NHL career-highs in goals, plus/minus (+9) and penalty minutes last season and ranked fourth among Canucks defenseman in hits (93) and blocked shots (113). He played in his 100th NHL game on Feb. 3 against Winnipeg. The 6'2", 204-pound defenseman made his NHL debut on April 27, 2013 at St. Louis and scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 17, 2013 against Buffalo. Stanton signed with the Capitals as a free agent on July 24, 2015.
Stanton has tallied seven points (two goals, five assists) and 30 penalty minutes in 28 games with Hershey (AHL) this season. The St. Albert, Alberta, native made his Hershey debut on Oct. 10, 2015 and scored his first goal with the Bears on Oct. 24 against Hartford. He has registered 67 points (11 goals, 56 assists) and 362 penalty minutes in 252 career AHL games with Rockford and Hersey.
