Providence Bruins News Release

PROVIDENCE, RI- Anton Blidh scored two goals, including a shorthanded effort, in tonight's 5-4 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to extend Providence's home streak to 8 games in a row.

Bridgeport got on the board first when Beck notched his 10th of the season just 1:38 into the first. Verhaeghe and Kearns picked up the assists.

Colton Hargrove and Anton Blidh connected for the P-Bruins first goal of the game. Hargrove skated over the blue line and dished the puck to Blidh whose wrister went low glove side on Gibson to tie the game 5:37 into the first.

Justin Hickman scored his first professional goal to give the P-Bruins the lead just three minutes later. Hickman deflected Matt Irwin's shot from the left point to go up 2-1. Ben Youds was also credited an assist.

Providence went into the second holding the 2-1 lead. 12:01 into the middle frame, Youds sent a centering pass to Tommy Cross who dished the puck to Zack Phillps on the left circle. Phillip's wrister found the back of the net for his 4th of the season and to put the P-Bruins up 3-1.

P-Bruin alumni Justin Florek claimed the next tally, when he put the puck past Subban under two minutes later to cut the Providence lead to 3-2.

The P-Bruins took back the two goal lead in the third period when Chris Casto notched a goal for the second game in a row. His wrist shot went high blocker side on Gibson, assists to Colby Cave and Irwin.

Blidh scored his second of the night and the eventual game-winner 4:51 into the third period. Blidh stripped a Bridgeport defenseman of the puck while on the penalty kill, streaked down the ice and undressed Gibson for a high light reel worthy short-handed tally.

Bridgeport's Gomes scored the next two, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the P-Bruins. Gomes' first goal generated a spirited reaction from Malcolm Subban, who was arguing for a goaltender interference penalty to be issued. The crowd seemed to agree, judging by the chorus of boos that followed. Subban was issued a game misconduct as a result, and went on to make 23 saves on 28 shots over the course of the night.

The P-Bruins are back home at the Dunk this Sunday against the Springfield Falcons at 3:05pm
