Stapleton Sets Marlies Franchise Record For Most Points In A Season
April 8, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release
Toronto Marlies centre Tim Stapleton registered his franchise-high 76th point of the season tonight, surpassing John Pohl's mark of 75 points set during the 2005-06 campaign. Stapleton's second hat-trick of the season forced overtime against the Rochester Americans on Wednesday night, but the Marlies lost 5-4 in the extra frame.
In 69 games this season Stapleton has recorded 27 goals and 49 assists for 76 points. He ranks first on the Marlies and eighth in the AHL in points. Stapleton's 49 assists this season is also a Marlies single season high. The Oak Park, IL native was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 1, 2009.
The Marlies continue their quest for a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs on Friday night when they host the Manitoba Moose - AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks - at 7 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies play their regular season finale at home against their QEW rival, the Hamilton Bulldogs - AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens - on Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday's games will both air live on Rogers TV Cable 10 in Toronto and 63 in Scarborough.
