Portland Pirates News Release
Worcester, MA - The Sharks clinched a playoff spot with a 2-1 win over the Pirates. Jhonas Enroth made 41 saves in the loss and Felix Schutz scored the lone goal for the Pirates.
The Sharks took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Ryan Vesce wrist shot from the left wing. Vesce's 24th goal of the season was assisted by Patrick Traverse and Tom Cavanagh. The 1-0 lead held through two periods of play, as the Pirates kept it close despite being outshot 32-14 through the first 40 minutes.
The Pirates tied things up just 48 seconds into the third period when Colton Fretter carried the puck behind the net and centered for Felix Schutz who jammed it home. Schutz's 15th goal of the year was assisted by Fretter and Tyler Bouck. But just a couple minutes later the Sharks took the lead back when Steven Zalewski took a shot from the right side and Enroth made the initial save. Dan DaSilva put the rebound home for his sixth goal of the season at 3:18 of the third period. Zalewski got the only assist on the eventual game-winning goal. With the 2-1 win and the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 loss to Hartford, Worcester clinched a playoff spot. Portland needs one more point this season to lock up a playoff spot.
Pirates goaltender Jhonas Enroth made 41 saves on 43 shots and took the loss. Thomas Greiss stopped 24 of 25 shots to pick up the win.
